Dr. Andrea Gamarnik received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1993 from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She did a postdoctoral work in the University of California, San Francisco (1994-1999), studying molecular mechanisms of poliovirus replication. Then, she worked as a Scientist in the Research and Development Department of ViroLogic Inc., developing phenotypic assays for HIV and hepatitis virus B and C (2000-2001). Dr. Gamarnik returned to Argentina to work in the Leloir Institute, where she created the first laboratory of Molecular Virology. Currently, she is an Independent Investigator of the Argentinean Council of Investigation (CONICET), International Research Scholar of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Associate Editor of PLoS Pathogens, and member of the Editorial Board of Virology.
